2 hours to go from apache to apache2 and get wordpress and gallery to work again

Friday, January 14th, 2005

as i said.. 2 hours.
apache2 was quick to get going alone, but to get existing virtual hosting, wordpress, and gallery up took a little longer.
of course, now that i’ve done this once, it would be quick to do again.

First, the reason to go back to apache2 when i initially removed it and reverted to apache1.3 to run wp and gallery?
well, the reason is here: http://shiflett.org/archive/86.

primarily this comment: “If threading is the main concern when using PHP with Apache2, then, well, you can turn it off.”

and the fact that for WebDAV you need apache2.

So, what troubles did I have?
to be as concise as possible:
relearn new httpd.conf alternatives for ap2
get php installed and going
discover that .htaccess requires AllowOverride directives in a directive in the virtual hosting bit of sites-available/default file.
remember how to turn on modules in ap2 (use the mods-enabled directory)

and that was about it. a little frustrating, but quick enough, and the standard learning curve of linux. really not too bad.

anyhow, time to find some food.
